Schools Are Out. We’re All Losing It. And That’s Okay.

If you’re reading this while
– reheating your coffee for the third time
– hearing “Mommmmm” from another room
– wondering how kids can eat this much

And honestly… SAME…

Schools are out. Snow days turned into snow weeks. Routines are gone, the house is louder than usual, and my patience is being tested hourly.

And yes — I’ve asked myself more than once:
“Am I losing my mind?”

The answer is: yes.
But also… apparently that’s part of it.

On long snow days, I keep a few easy favorites on hand that make the day feel a little smoother — cozy things, simple activities, and small comforts that help everyone (me included) reset. These are things we actually use and love when we’re stuck inside for days at a time.

The Snow Day Guessing Game

Okay Moms — we all know how this goes.

The guessing game of will we have school or not. Waiting for the call to come through. Kids asking a million times if they have to go. Or that lovely 4 a.m. alert that decides the entire day before the sun even comes up.

And honestly? I love a good snow day. I love the slower pace, the coziness, and the break from the usual rush.

But… when snow days stretch into multiple days — or even weeks — that’s when it starts to feel like a lot.

The noise gets louder.
The questions don’t stop.
The house never fully resets.

And suddenly you’re juggling meals, emotions, work, togetherness, and sanity — all at the same time.

If you’ve felt that shift from “this is kind of fun” to “okay, I’m tired now”… you’re not alone.

Snow Days Sound Magical (Until You’re Living Them)

I LOVE my kids. I really do.
But snow days hit different when they stack up.

Suddenly:
– everyone needs a snack at the same time
– screen time rules get very flexible
– the house never gets quiet
– and I’m questioning every parenting decision I’ve ever made

Somewhere between cleaning up crumbs and breaking up arguments, I realized something important:

I needed backup.

When Snow Days Start to Feel Like Too Much

  • Lower the bar – If everyone is fed, safe, and mostly dressed, that’s a win. Snow days don’t require perfection — they require survival.
  • Let the kids be bored – You don’t have to entertain them every minute. Bored kids figure things out — and you get a moment to think.
  • Laugh when you can – Snack negotiations. Arguments over nothing. Wondering how it’s only noon. Laughing doesn’t mean you’re not tired — it just means you’re human.

When I Call My Mom (Because Moms Still Need Moms)

At some point during one particularly long day, I FaceTimed my Mom.

I didn’t need advice.
I didn’t need a solution.
I just needed someone to tell me I wasn’t failing.

I told her I felt overwhelmed. A little crazy. Tired in a way sleep doesn’t fix.

She looked at me and said, “Yes. And that’s okay.”
Then she smiled and added, “What’s so weird is… you’re honestly going to miss this at some point.”

And that stopped me.

Because in the middle of the noise, the mess, the nonstop questions, I couldn’t imagine missing any of it.

I remember thinking, Will I?
And suddenly I felt emotional all at the same time.

Not because the days aren’t hard — they are.
But because one day, the house will be quieter.
The snow days won’t look like this.
And the chaos I’m barely surviving right now will be something I look back on.

It doesn’t make today easier.
But it does make it feel meaningful.

And sometimes, that’s enough.
