Welcome to “The Heart Behind The Empty Nest Mom” Series!
Welcome to our favorite corner of the internet—where real Moms share real stories, from spit-up to send-offs. In this series, we’re introducing the incredible women behind The Empty Nest Mom—the ones who’ve been there, cried there, laughed way too hard there. Whether they’re chasing toddlers, launching college kids, or rediscovering themselves one hobby (or latte) at a time, these Moms are here to remind you that you’re never alone in this journey. Come meet your new favorite people.

✨ We loved our conversation with Mechele—part cozy, part empowering, and all heart. Whether she’s reading a new book, planning her next adventure, or pouring into her family, she shows up with grace, warmth, and just the right dash of wit.
We asked Mechele a few thoughtful (and maybe book-club-worthy) questions—because no one blends Motherhood, stories, and real-life sparkle quite like she does.
Let talk motherhood, How would you describe yourself as mom?
Overwhelmed—that’s the word that comes to mind when I think about myself as a Mom. I always felt like I was just barely holding it all together (and honestly, sometimes I was). Thankfully, my daughters were good kids, full of grace and patience with me. Looking back, I know I did the best I could in the chaos, even if it didn’t always feel that way at the time.
A Note from Mandy
Mechele has been one of those friends who just gets it. She’s real, loyal, and brings this quiet strength to everything she does—even when she doesn’t realize it. As a Mom, she’s walked through the hard days, the overwhelming seasons, and the beautiful moments that take your breath away. She’s the kind of woman who shows up—for her family, her friends, and now, for this community. I’ve always admired her ability to find meaning in the mess and joy in the ordinary. When I created The Empty Nest Mom, I knew Mechele had to be part of it—not just because of what she’s experienced, but because of the heart she brings to it all.
What are your favorite go-to products right now?
- Diet Pepsi – This has been my go to! It is very gently and moisturizing and really helps with my dry skin, and with a newborn it sometimes feels like a mini spa treatments!!
- Chocolate – I am not sure how I could do without this: it’s my recipe book, my alarm clock, baby tracker, my fave distraction tool, and even my late-night binge buddy.
I wouldn’t say I have a signature go-to product—unless Diet Pepsi and chocolate count (which, let’s be honest, they absolutely do). Beyond that, I’m a total sucker for a good ad. If it promises results and sounds convincing, I’ll probably give it a shot. Call me curious… or easily influenced. Either way, I’m always up for trying something new!

From caffeine fixes to book-lover finds and everything in between, these are the little things that make life sweeter, calmer, or just plain easier for me. If it made the list, you can bet I’ve tested it, loved it, or fallen for the commercial.
Tell us a Fun fact about you?
It might not sound wild, but I walk 25+ miles almost every weekend—and I love it. It’s my calm, my thinking space, and the way I reset after a busy week. Some people do yoga… I put on my sneakers and wander.
Tell us how you Met mandy
I’ve known Mandy for what feels like forever. We grew up in the same small town, and I went to school with her brother from kindergarten all the way through high school. Our paths crossed early, but it wasn’t until later that our friendship truly bloomed—and now I couldn’t imagine life without her in it. She’s been a constant, a cheerleader, and a friend who just gets it.
What was your first thought when Mandy told you about The Empty Nest Mom?
My first thought was, “This is such a great idea.” There’s so much out there that makes Moms feel like they have to have it all together all the time—and I definitely didn’t. Honestly, I often felt like I was failing. But the truth is, the best memories are made in the messy moments, not the perfect ones. Moms need a space where they can be real, feel seen, and know they’re not alone—and that’s exactly what this site is becoming.

Mechele’s honesty, wit, and grounded heart are exactly why her story matters. As a devoted Mom, book lover, and deep thinker, she brings a quiet strength to this space—reminding us that you don’t have to have it all figured out to show up with love. Mechele reminds us that real Motherhood is found in the trying, the learning, and the being—not just the doing.
